Introducing Chinmay Surpur, M.A.

Chinmay Surpur, M.A.
Psychological Associate

Chinmay is a first-generation South Asian American therapist and E-RYT certified yoga instructor with experience providing therapy and case management services to children, adolescents, and adults in community, schools, and private practice settings. His approach to therapy and healing is client-centered, holistic, and tailored to each individual. He integrates traditional methods of psychotherapy with practices such as yoga, meditation, music, art, and mindfulness to co-create treatment plans with clients and provide a truly authentic healing experience. Chinmay has worked with BIPOC students and families in East Oakland through the Oakland Unified School District, and one of his professional passions is to destigmatize and empower mental health for boys and men. Chinmay also has experience in music technology and has worked on a start-up to provide a mobile music studio accessible to anyone with a smartphone. Additionally, he has been a yoga teacher for over 10 years and incorporates yoga practices into his therapy sessions

Chinmay is pursuing his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Saybrook University. His doctoral dissertation will be an expansion of his Master's thesis topic: "Integrating Principles and Practices of Ashtanga Yoga with Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy".

At Mind Harbor, he provides clinical services under the supervision of Jet Hermes, Psy.D.  He is comfortable conducting therapy in Kannada, understands Hindi, and is conversationally fluent in Spanish.

Outside of therapy, Chinmay enjoys listening to and producing music, teaching and practicing yoga, singing, reading, and playing video games.
